Governing Board Meeting. The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District's Governing Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday May 15, 2008 beginning at 9:00 a.m. To view support materials for this meeting please click here. (i.e. agenda, support documents, or to view the webcast while the meeting is in progress.)

The Valley Air District is rolling out the most sweeping initiative in its history, Healthy Air Living. This comprehensive, year-round, multi-faceted program involves every sector of the Valley’s population. A new commentary from the District's Executive Director addresses the exciting potential of this new initiative.

In-Use Off-Road Diesel Fleet Survey On July 26, 2007, the State of California’s Air Resources Board adopted a regulation to reduce diesel particulate matter (PM) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions from in-use (existing) off-road heavy-duty diesel vehicles. The regulation also includes the Surplus Off-road Opt-in for NOx (SOON) program, which may offer financial assistance for engine retrofits and replacements. To learn more and participate in this survey, click here.

Permit-Exempt Equipment Registration (PEER). Applications to register permit-exempt boilers and agricultural engines are now available. The PEER program offers a streamlined alternative to permitting by which sources demonstrate compliance with rules that require emissions reductions from permit-exempt equipment. For further information and application deadlines, click this link: PEER Information.

Development Projects: Indirect Source Review (ISR) Requirements. The Indirect Source Review (ISR) rule, which went into effect March 1, 2006, requires developers of larger residential, commercial and industrial projects to reduce smog-forming and particulate emissions generated by their projects. The rule is expected to reduce nitrogen oxides and particulates throughout the San Joaquin Valley by more than 10 tons per day by 2010. Find out if your project is subject to ISR.

The District has released the 2007 Annual Report on the District’s Indirect Source Review Program for the period March 1, 2006 to February 28, 2007.  Click here to view.

Environmental Justice Strategy
The District Governing Board adopted the Environmental Justice Strategy on August 16, 2007. This comprehensive policy will serve as a roadmap by which the District will be guided in integrating Environmental Justice principles and augmenting the steps already taken by the District in reaching out to the community. The policy is available in English and Spanish.  For additional information on the policy please contact Jaime Holt at (559) 230-5850 or Maricela Velasquez at (559) 230-5849.

EPA finds District in attainment for major pollutant. On March 19, 2008, the US Environmental Protection Agency posted a final rule in the Federal Register affirming the agency’s October 30, 2006 determination that the Valley has attained the national ambient air quality standards for PM10. This approval comes after the District submitted a letter and supporting documentation to the California Air Resources Board requesting that the air basin be reclassified as in attainment for the federal health-based standard for airborne particulate matter of 10 microns and smaller. This historic achievement represents years of hard work by individuals, industry, Valley communities and the Air District.
